Resumen del concurso
This is a contest for a hardcover book’s dust jacket along with the hardboard cover (two items). The measurements for the book are 8 inches by 10 inches (with a binding along the 10 inch left side). The thickness of the book is 1.25 inches. This project is to create the following:
1. A hardcover dustjacket that includes 4 inch flaps and a 0.75 inch bleed section around the perimeter
a. This means the total measurement will be 26.75 inches wide by 11.50 inches high.
b. I am attaching an Adobe Illustrator file of the template. You will see the 0.75 inch gutter marked with a red line and the sections labeled. I have also added lines to mark the creases for the spine and side flaps.
2. A foil debossed design for the book itself. The total amount of debossing cannot be more than 10 square inches.
I am going to describe a basic concept, but I would like for you to feel free to make it stylish or improve upon it. I have attached a very rough look for what I am going for. I am not a graphic designer, so obviously do not be too literal with what I have created. I want you to be original.
We can base it off of Neil Degrasse Tyson’s book “Astrophysics for People in a Hurry”. Obviously for copyright issues, we need to have it be different (especially the stars). This is just a broad way to talk about it.
At the bottom (in black silhouette) will be a bull and a bear with their arms around each other (like they are friends) and they are both looking up at the stars and the title of the book “Wealth by Virtue”. At the bottom of the cover (in the black silhouette section) will be my name “Chad Gordon”. The bull and bear can be sitting on grass, or on a hill, or under a tree. Keep in mind that when people are buying books, they are usually clicking on a small icon and the bull and bear need to be (1) big enough to see what they are on a small image (2) quickly identified from their silhouette.
This will need to be a graphic that you create. Since it’s a silhouette, the bull will be easier to identify (because of the horns), but the bear may be more of a challenge. If you think it will be clearer, the bear can be looking at the bull who is looking up at the stars.
Also, very importantly, I would like one single halo above BOTH of their heads. This can be subtle or obvious, or the stars can form a halo.
The fonts should be a classical style. Definitely use a serif font.
As far as flexibility … the most important part of this is the bull and bear as friends. If you think that there is a better way to show this, I am open to ideas. It is important to me that you show creativity and that the whole cover looks like an artistic piece. It can be abstract or more realistic. Here are some top designers:

For the debossed cover, when you take off the dust jacket from the book, this is what will be underneath. The most important thing is that it cannot have more than 10 square inches of debossing. It can be a different representation of the cover (perhaps just a debossed outline of the bull and bear together across the whole cover). The final version of this must be a black and white image where the black shows the debossed area.
The spine should say “Gordon” above “Wealth by Virtue” along with a logo for GreenStar Press. I have attached the logo. The back should be a continuation of the front and have the ISBN number (bar code) on it (also attached). The inside flaps can have Latin text for now.
Rules:
1. You must use original art and graphic design.
2. The final version must be in Adobe InDesign or Adobe Illustrator
3. All files (including fonts) must be turned over upon completion.
If you have any questions please post them on the main message board for me to answer publicly. Thank you and good luck.

“The second I saw his design I knew it was the one that I wanted (and this was out of a contest with about 80 entries). He has terrific graphic instincts and style.”
