Indeed you will need a cad model, but it will be a little different from what you pictured. In order the elements to be easier to manufacture, the jointing system should be placed alongside the lengths and not transverse. Also it will be necessary to be able to fit on different thicknesses in such way to be kinda universal. And few more things which will be discussed... HI, it seems like I have an idea about the locking mechanism. Why not to use buttons for clothing? I mean those metal thing consisting of two parts, one clips into another. They also can be used to attach the top interchangeable layer. In this case the whole production process is reduced to making holes in strips and mounting buttons into them. Whether you accept this idea or some other solution would be found, my price is for making a 3D model and drawinngs in SolidWork software. I am a mechanical engineer with a BS in ME and a Masters degree. I have been involved in product design and development for over 10 years for large and small start-up companies. I have a passion for developing great products and am currently an owner of a start-up company that has designed and developed a great medical device. I am new to Freelancer and would like to use it as a side job and to make associations with inventive people. I think the device you would like to design has potential and can be designed and produced relatively easily. I also think my skill-set in product design, CAD, structural analysis, drawing creation, and injection molding would be a good fit for this project. As I looked at the design, I wondered if you would like to have a hinge that makes the bottom and middle parts connected and aligned more easily? That could make attaching to the mane a little easier. I would also recommend have a prototype piece 3D printed. If awarded the job, I would create solid CAD models. Upon approval, I would create 3D Print Files and drawings. When this is completed to your satisfaction, I can certainly help with next steps in the product development if desired.
