LowPoly break up in AE

I am making an outdoor projection on an historic building and I am working with three or four flat Adobe Illustrator illustrations on a 16:10 canvas that equates to the projected surface in After Effects. The illustrations are in AE as shape layers and I now want to have them blow apart /reform into the recognisable pictures. I know it can be done by running a shatter type filter or whatever but I want to retain the raw shapes that make up the illustrations rather then break the picture up and ideally would like them to fly off in 3d space with some lighting on them. Is there script specialist or puppeting expert out there who can help?
