Dear Freelancers,

I am in the making of a prototype of an alcohol dispenser for a pilot project on a hospitals. It is intended to track compliance (how much it is used by staff) data and make people use it by displaying symbols on an LCD display. The display will be cut into the dispenser and the Arduino hardware will replace the current PCB in the automated dispenser used for the pilot. The automatic alcohol dispenser itself is a standard dispenser that I will modify by replacing the current electronics with Arduino.

Pilot description:

The dispensers will be placed in 30 patient rooms - one in each room. The hospital staff will be equipped with a BLE beacon to inform the dispenser of their presence of staff as they enter a room. When the presence of staff is detected by the dispenser the LCD display will light up with a symbol for "Attention"(the symbol must be customizable). The symbol is intended to make the staff use the dispenser. If the dispenser is used the LCD will light up with another symbol as "Acknowledgement". The scenario is captured with either success (the staff used the dispenser as intended) or missed opportunity (the staff ignored the dispenser).

Patients and guests are captured by the build in PIR detector. When the detector is tricked without a BLE beacon nearby the instance is captured as being a patient or guest (patients and guests do not wear BLE beacons). The procedure from here is the same as when a BLE beacon is detected.

Each dispenser is connected with each other through a Zigbee network that ends up with a zigbee hub that is connected to the internet though an ethernet plug. The hub is the end station for captured data where it is shared to the internet. The captured data from the dispensers are shared though the Zigbee network to the zigbee hub that shares the captured data with an online platform (the platform is a simple password secured website displaying each dispensers data as raw data and timeline curves).

The dispenser (see pictures) is a PLUM electronic dispenser. The current PCB will be replaced by Arduino. This means it also has to control the motor operating the dispenser.

The dispenser is driven by four AA batteries which must be replaced by an external power supply.

What will be in the setup:

Micro controller Zigbee

PIR sensor

Bluetooth Arduino module

Arduino LCD display

Power supply

BLE beacons will be attached to the staff ID card holders.

Limitations:

The BLE beacon must not trick the dispenser until it is located less than 1.5 meter in front of it. This is to ensure that it does not trick when a doctor walks by in the hallway or is in the room next to it.

It must be possible to customize the symbols displayed for either Attention or Acknowledgement through the website.

Data must be downloadable from the website and displayed as live status of each dispenser and staff group (doctor, nurse etc.) the data must also have a historic overview.

You will deliver the software controlling the Arduino, an assembling instruction of how the components must be connected and the website that displays the data and where the symbols can be customized.

Please ask any question if you are in doubt.

Many thanks,

Theis Jensen
