I need an electronic-expert, who can create a circuit and build a prototype of the following device: It should contain a small display. On the display, I wanna show a number from 1-999. I wanna set the number on the device (with simple switch or similiar). The device must be connected with a computer with USB. On the computer, I have a software where I can define, at which number of device the LED should switch on. 100-200 of that device will be conncted to one computer, so I'm not sure, if USB is the best way to connect. Maybe a differnt way is much better, or a optical connection...I need your advise for that. Thanks for your bids. Swen

Hi, I have developed similar project like this one. It was handgrip counter for elder people and many handgrip number can be shown on the PC GUI. I use one transmitter which can be connect on the computer and control many receivers. I advise to you use RF connection or IoT connection. I would like to talk all details over the chat. Hi, in order to handle 100-200 devices, we can't use USB, it wouldn't enough power. I think we can use master-slave device first. I mean, the device that will be directly connected to computer is one, and this device handle some other smaller "slave" device. we can use RS485,RS422, or another hardware topology to handle it. we can investigate which can handle the most number of devices. I guess this will not be a fast delivery project. so, we must communicate regulary to finish it. Let's discuss the detail over chat . Best Regards, Rijal

Hello, I am a self taught automation specialist who has electronics and software development experience. 100 ~ 200 device to control from single point is a doable but function is important. When i think 100+ device, i think that distances should long. at least, if each device far 1 meter from each other, that makes 100+ meters in total. cable communication is very bad idea. for example, usb is maximum 3meter is good for a reasonable communication and 5 meter is maximum distance to be able to communicate over usb. Anyway, Usb has a star topology. One usb port can handle only one device. That means, if you require 100 devices to connect usb, you have to expand usb ports using usb hubs. It is a terrible idea. Anyway, i think it is better to use I2c or something like that uses less wire and addressing protocol. That makes longer distances possible. I would like to know more details about the project to make it clear and make an accurate offer. Thanks, Kadir.

Sir, I am an experienced electronics engineer in a leading electronics company. I developed so many Embedded boards, FPGA boards, SoC boards, Microcontroller boards using ORCAD Cadence and written codes in C, VHDL, Vivado. I will make the schematic, and give you BOM, PCB Layout and gerber. So that you can straight away manufacture that PCB and can interface the display. Thanks

hi, why not use rs485 or ethernet communication, they are more convenient to wiring, and even more reliable, and from your description, this system do not need a high communication rate. thanks, looking forward to your reply.

Hello I'm interested in your project First of all, I recommend DMX protocol instead USB. You can conect up to 255 devices to this protocol. I have made electronic design (PCB and Firmware) for this kind of systems. I can give you more details by chat. Regards

Hi. Interesting project. I think that an excellent option to connect a high number of devices to one computer could be using an ethernet network or a wifi network through the use of routers or switches. Then create a web server to select the device number that will light up. In relation to the device, a touch-type LCD screen could be used to display the number, and a virtual keyboard (designed on the LCD) could be used to configure the ID of the device. Hello Sir, powering 100-200 device via computer's USB is not a good idea. We can make a device(master) that communicate 100-200 devices(slave) via wireless communication. master device will be connected via USB to a computer. I have 4 years experience in PCB designing in EAGLE( single multilayer and flex). following are some examples of my work 1. ESP12E wifi + relay board + humidity&temp sensor Smart module 2. ESP12S wifi + relay board home automation board. 3. ESP12E wifi + RC522 RFID + BUCk converter module. 4. atmega328au + hm11(BLE)+ relays car actuator module. 5. atmega328au + nrf24l01 + relays smart switch module. 6. atmega328au + mpr121 capacitive touch smart remote. 7. amega328au + LCD display + hc06(later hm10) + amplifier + strain gauge water mapping module. 8. atmega328au + hm10(BLE) + gyroscope + reed sensor + battery charger smart skateboard module 9. Arduino Uno clone. Hello Sir, the project you want to do I have already experienced. My last project was about a display you can see that in my profile review. This is a project I have done similar you wants. Please check this: https://www.freelancer.com/u/yousufhusain434/portfolio/USB-controlled-number-displayLED-4463770 In this video you can see that I send any number from 1-999 via Serial Communication than the device show the number in display. The number can be send via USB and Bluetooth. The sent number is actually a string. The microcontroller (ATmega-328) receive the string and show it in the display. If you want any kind of change I am able to do. I have 4 years experience in ATmega microcontroller and PCB designing (Using CADSoft EAGLE & Proteus). Thank you.

I would offer RS485 based solution where each device would have two e.g. RJ11 or RJ45 sockets for easy daisy-chaining the devices onto a single bus. Each device would have own unique address that allows direct talking to that specific device from the PC. All devices can be accessed from a single USB port via USB to RS485 dongle.
