I want to control a DC motor in both directions controlled by a forward and reverse relay. T he motor and supply is separate and done by me. I need to monitor a select-able and adjustable AC Current in the range of 5A to 50A. Lets say I select and set 20A. If the current is lower then 20A, the forward relay will energize the motor until the current goes up to 20A. If the current goes over 20A , the reverse relay will energize the motor until the current drops back to 20A. The motor is driving a variac (variable transformer). The motor is slow and will not really overshoot. The current change is also very slow. The hysteresis should be not larger then 1.5A If the control is de-energized, the reverse relay contacts will be closed and the motor will run from the separate power until a limit switch stops it. If the control is energized there will be 0 AC current and the forward relay contact will close and drive the motor until it reaches 20A. Of course the reverse relay contacts will open. The supply voltage is 120V 60Hz. I do have 100A CT People, this is not a huge industrial job. it is single use project. I am hoping there are some electronic modules which can be adapted. For example, I used a $10 temperature control module (AliExpress) with build in timer and adjustable hysteresis, substituted the temperature sensor varistor with a light sensor. Then I had a light-control unit for street lights which can be very precisely set , we are saving about 2 hours running time per day. In my case a -15C is the perfect switching point for dawn and dusk. All I need for somebody to figure out how to convert a variable AC current reading (by CT) into a positive or negative signal to control the motor direction relays. That in my mind is not a $700 job. Hello, Thanks for posting the project. I am an Electrical Engineer with 30 years’ experience of Customized Product Development for Instrumentation and Control applications. I am based in Kolkata (India) and running a business in the name of "Zetek Systems". I have a good hardware setup and a team for fabrication and testing. I can give you two different type of solutions: The first one will be based on analog circuits, where you can set the target ampere through a pot. A comparator circuit will compare the set point with the DC signal derived from output of the CT, and drive the relays. Here the hysteresis and set point will have some tolerance. The second one will be microcontroller based, where you will be able to fix the set-point as well as hysteresis digitally. The CT output signal will be read via an ADC, and the comparison will be done programmatically. For this project we can discuss more detailed specification, deliverables and milestones through chat. Estamos a la orden Saludos Tu proyecto es bien interesante y es un control lazo cerrado de tu motor DC, Me gustaria ver lo que tienes, esquematicos, etc, para poder determinar el alcance del trabajo. Entiendo perfectamente lo que quieres, y puede ser atacado de varias maneras, por ejemplo electronica analógica, o en forma digital usando microcontroladores. En todo caso si me envias mas detalle puedo evaluar el problema sin compromiso. Yo trabajo con microcontroladores PIC, pero puedo revisar la posibilidad de hacerlo con electronica analógica. Un saludo.. Nota1: Con Un microcontrolador es un trabajo sencillo, pues puedes leer con el micro AC directamente, luego de acondicionar la señal del CT y con un potenciometro conectado a un canal ADC del micro leer el setpoint. Si tienes un puente H el micro envia la señal de giro en un sentido u otro de acuerdo al procesamiento. Tambien puede variar la velocidad del motor, si se requiere, usando PWM Nota2; Analógicamente, puedes rectificar la salida de CT y usar tierra virtual de esta manera tienes voltaje positivo y negativo, luego con comparadores puedes establecer el setpoint y actuar sobre tus rele.

Hello, This can be programmed using an Arduino along with the output from you shunt. It is better if you have CT instead of shut due to the isolation between the AC side and the control circuit. Let us discuss and solve

Hi, I am Brian. Base on the proposal, it is possible to use a current hall sensor and and simple MCU to control the relay. Just saw you change the description. For simple PCB with simple logic control. It is a quick project. May not need like 700USD Again, For example, ACS732-3-KLA for example for the AC current sensing. And the reading will be sense by a MCU or a IC which can control the relay or give signal to another modules. If a modules are used for quick development, it is also welcomed.
