I have a very simple job that needs to be done quickly. I need a script, small program, or any other method you can come up with to import or convert XML files to Microsoft Excel/Open Office Calc. I am using Calc, but worst case scenario if I can get the file converted to .xls then it would work fine. Here is a sample entry from the type of XML file I need to take into Calc/Excel:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<categories>
<category>
<name>Person Name</name>
<street>Street Name</street>
<city>City Name</city>
<state>State Name</state>
<zip>55555 <ul><li class="nonDealerLink noPrint"><a href="/bus/State/City/Name/589479/[login to view URL]" rel="nofollow" onmousedown="[login to view URL]({link_name:'map_and_directions', link_attr1:'in_listing_left', listing_link:'600736_sp|map_and_directions_State', headdir_link:'00414600|092010', position_address:'l_y', position_number:'l_1'});" title="The Title">Map</a></li></ul></zip>
<phone>555-555-5555</phone>
<website>[login to view URL]</website>
</category>
</categories>
The way I would want it to be shown in Excel/Calc is as follows:
Column A: Name
Column B: Street
Column C: City
Column D: State
Column E: Zip (without all the stuff that's in the <ul> tags, just the 55555 part in the example above)
Column F: Phone
Column G: Website
I would need to be able to use the same method over and over again for various XML files that would be in the same format. I've tried to get it imported properly and with no luck so I came here. Even if someone just knows how to import it properly without even having to create anything I would simply pay for that information. Basically you can achieve the method however you like as long as I can get the results I am looking for. Thank you for your time.
