Joomla: Backend ACL for Phoca Download

The problem: Our client uses Phoca Download as a document- and download manager. It displays categories (subcategories) and files which can be downloaded from the frontend. Phoca Download already includes ACL it means, files or categories can be accessed only for specific groups or users. But this ACL feature does only works in the frontend, both for users and editors. Users only can download files, if the access level fits. Frontend editors can only put files into articles (via a editor button plugin), if their access level fits. But our clients editors mainly work in the backend area of Joomla! The ACL features of Phoca Download in the backend are rudimentary. This means that you only have global options in the backend. There are no access options for - categories - files and - upload view A backend editor can access everything or nothing. In category and file view we find it stupid to introduce a user based ACL instead of a group based ACL. When you have lots of editors, like we have, it´s a pain to set the ACL rights. Again, this ACL options only works for the frontend, not for the backend. What we need is: 1) a consistant, group based ACL system for the administration area of Phoca Download, that should be consistant with Joomla 2.5 ACL. 2) Permissions should be inherited in the following structure: Component Level >> Category Level >> Sub Categories >> Documents ACL Features that other Joomla! download manager extensions like Docman or EDocman have!
