Create preview images from pdf document

I need assistance to create images from a given pdf document pages. Generally we are having pdf documents of length 8. We should have image (jpg or png) of page 1 and 8.
After creation of image the mysql db must be updated with the image name and reference information. There will be demo application and it is an extension of an existing application.
