Magento Submit Order get 503 response and redirect to cart page

The site is using Magento 1.9.0.1 and it works well last week. We just noticed the issue. We recently applied several magento patches, including SUPEE 10570, 10752.
The issue: when customer submit their order with payment info, the request is send to
/checkout/onepage/saveOrder/form_key/XXXXXXXX
and we get 503 response. Amasty duplicate category is the only extension we installed recently. Not sure what is going on, but need someone who can work on it immediately.

Checked apache error log and found:
(104)Connection reset by peer: [client xx.xx.xx.xx] AH01075: Error dispatching request to : , referer: https://www.domain.com/checkout/onepage/
