We host a custom-built ecommerce member login website built by a programmer some 10-15 years ago, in PHP4 the website will be replaced once I get a thorough brief because it’s a complex website, but in the meantime we have some issues that need fixing. The payments are thru PayPal and SagePay (PROTX) so are secure, but the site has an issue – the admin section displays all the passwords, and 2 clients have complained their passwords are sent by email which is a breach of security under GDPR. The job is to do the following: 1) Replace the password sent by email with password reset or password reminder, whichever you prefer 2) Ensure the passwords cannot all be seen in the login area of the admin section of the website. 3) Install a SSL certificate, safe and secure, ensuring the website still works This website is on a VPS, I can provide the following; cPanel login Admin area login PHPMyAdmin Login FTP Login Again a reminder this is a custom built site in PHP4, you must know your PHP and MySQL and be familiar with SSL and GDPR and best practice. As with all my jobs I put them on Freelancer and use a keyword, if your bid does not start with this keyword, I will know you didn’t read the project and I will delete your bid. Hello, along with my PHP and eCommerce programming, I enjoy listening to music on my headphones :) Over the years I have both built custom-coded sites for eCommerce as well as working with and customization of open source solutions that entail both a customer base and security of information. I have created CSRs and private keys and both manually setup SSL/certificates on servers, as well as of course most hosting provides easy access through cPanel/Plesk for generating/installing/updating certificates. Hiding passwords in admin (or anywhere) would be simple enough. I would instead (or in addition) change the password setup. For example, update the database resetting password to the md5 hash of said password. MD5 is a one way hash, so you can't "decode" back to the original text. Where password checks are needed it would instead evaluate the MD5 hash of the submitted password to the saved hash value instead of plain text compare of said passwords. I have also previously setup similar "forgot password" systems: - don't show if email exists, just say "if account exists, and email will be sent with reset instructions" - create a URL that also generates a unique/random/long string to validate against for the user to follow - optionally store a date/time with the validation string to expire the reset URL after an amount of time has passed - hour, day, 2,7hrs, etc
