How to be a better writer?

This is one question I always receive as a freelance content writer. If you want to make it in the competitive writing industry, this guide is for you. In this blog, you'll find actionable tips and insights to become a top class writer. Bookmark or share it around.

By the way, who am I? You can call me “Reg” and I’m a content writer living in Malaysia. Throughout my writing career, I had been known as one of the top bloggers in Malaysia and a top influencer in digital marketing. You can find my writings on authority websites such as the Harvard University blog, Yahoo! Small Business, Huffington Post, and Entrepreneur Magazine. You can also find some of my best works on my personal blog.

So, how do you become a better writer? Consider following my two-part ritual:

Part 1: Allow the idea to sink in

The next time you score a writing gig, don’t jump directly into the topic. Instead, have more time to think about it and do this before your bedtime.

Our brain will subconsciously process the idea when you are asleep. So when you start writing the blog post, you will find that the ideas flow easier compared to when you didn’t give yourself more time to assess the topic. By the way, I call this “idea brewing.”

Part 2: Recheck the post after a day

The second part is rather simple. After finishing your written work, leave it for a day and come back to review it with a fresh mindset. You might see the post in a different perspective, allowing you to easily spot areas for improvement.

What’s in it for you if you follow my writing ritual? You will:

  • feel more ‘connected’ and engaged when writing a post
  • never lose an idea (or run out of them) when writing

To conclude, there are many factors and strategies you must learn to become a better writer. At the end of the day, you also need to have a strong passion for writing before you can ultimately create a powerful piece.

Though the writing journey is often filled with challenges, later on, it will be rewarding.
