INTRODUCTION

1.1 The background of study

Television or TV is often called one of the most influential mass media on society. According to the dictionary of the Indonesian language, is a television broadcast image catcher tool. Television is derived from the tele (distant) and vision (looks), so television means visible or can be seen from afar. In simple terms we can define television as a mass media show broadcast in the form of images and sounds from a distance. The emergence of television as the electronic media gave great influence to people's lives today. Television is an integral part of everyday life and a major source of socialization and general information for the public. For Gerbner, compared to other mass media, television got its own place. So significant in everyday life to dominate "the symbolic" we, by replacing the message about the reality of personal experience and the means to know the world (McQuail, 1996:254). Television (TV) has its own advantages with the image movement, as TV audiences tend to use media as a means of entertainment, information and knowledge so as to make the information and the message more interesting and fun audience than any other medium. Speaking about the content of television shows, events had been presented by the television audience. Starting from displaying films, soap operas, reality shows, sitcoms, talk shows, news, commercials and a variety of international shows.

Television with interest event has been able to attract viewers, and make the audience hooked to always watch show sired. Not only adult’s course, even the children were watching television is already a part of the integral part of daily activities. As a cultural product and technology, television presence will continue to grow and improve if for times to come. Ownership of television sets by a family not a luxury anymore. Television has been staple food for human life, not just in urban areas but also in areas countryside.

2.1 Television is important to our life

As far as we know television is a visual communication tool that delivers an entertainment and news. Who is not familiar with the television? Started from the young to the seniors also know and idolize the benefits of television.

As an entertainment medium, television provides the public a variety of fresh spectacle. Many kinds of channel are serving such as comedy, cartoon, film, music and others. Here, the public television show will entertain and refresh your mind after a day of activity. As we know, carry out the daily activities of a public agenda, starting from early morning to evening. In fact, when the dusk. After the move, of course people will feel tired and fatigue and so we need an appropriate solution to address it. One way is to watch television.

In addition to presenting an entertainment, television also brings news, good news from home and abroad. News usually witnessed by many people who are adults or people who have or want to understand the outside world. Positive benefits that can be obtained when viewed from the side of the television, that is: we can know the information of a particular product advertisement, we are able to watch television that we like and providing information to viewers through the news media and the live broadcast both nationally and internationally.

2.2 the function of television for education and learning

Television footage also serves as a medium of education. Through television, we have audio visual learning. The impression that is what makes us to more easily recall what we have learned. Learning audio visual is different than learning through reading books. The knowledge that only a form of words that is hard to imagine. What's more is needed to focus on something that is being read. Perhaps there is, in fact we will feel bored and knowledge that will be read easily forgotten.

For media information, television is able to provide actual information and quickly. Television footage can display information at the same time the occurrence of an event and then also throughout Indonesia can watch simultaneously in the same time. In addition, television also broadcast information from all over the world so that the people of Indonesia can know the natural disasters in other countries without having to come into the country.

In life, we as humans often have the curiosity of a very large. Many questions are present in our every time I was in a situation that we do not understand. Of course it is expected an answer and the answer was in the form of information which is important for us to know. Therefore, the role of television as a medium of information often eagerly awaited his presence.

2.3 Television affects to our health.

Because associated with sedentary behavior (sedentary behavior) such as sitting and lying down for long periods without expending energy, too much television allegedly negative impact on health. Many studies have shown that watching television in a long time associated with body mass index higher, lower fitness levels, and blood cholesterol levels higher. b) Eye

Eye is one of the vital parts of the human body, if the eye continuously driven to visual objects that had the same radiation will lead to fatigue in the eye can lead to disability.

c) Age

Our life time is waste because many time we spent to watching the television than do a useful thing such as study, work, and others.

2.4 Television is also use for media business or an advertisement

As an advertising medium, television is able to offer various forms of products and services to the public. Usually, the ads offered relate to the needs of society, such as soap, toothpaste, snacks, and clothing.

Television commercials made attractive to attract community interest. The way ads often use models and services made in the form of a short story that can leave a lasting impression for the audience. Any ways do the ads even if it should lie, for example, can be seen in various commercials detergent that offers it is efficacy in dealing with stubborn stains, when in fact it is not true? However, lying in ads does not mean fraud. Depending on us as viewers to react, Believe it or not.
