Fix css/display issue with floating header on Joomla site

We have a Joomla site with a registration form and a floating header. If the user clicks 'submit' on the form the validation error will appear above (on top of) the header. The page is here: [login to view URL]
To test just try to submit the form, or see the attached screenshot.
I think this is happening because the header is absolutely positioned, so when the validation focuses on the incorrect field it aligns with the top of the page, not the floating header bar. We still need the validation message to appear (not hidden behind the header), but it needs to moved down so it doesn't overlap the header.
This may be a CSS fix, or done in javascript. We would like someone who can start now and have this done quickly.
