Ongoing Squarespace Design and Development

We are a US-based agency, focused on building custom Squarespace sites for client projects.
Expert knowledge of Squarespace Version 6 is a requirement.
Experience in the Squarespace Developer Platform is preferred.

As a Front End Developer, your main responsibility is for the production, modification and maintenance of websites and user interfaces. This involves working closely with designers, in using semantic markup language i.e. HTML5/CSS, to turn their static Photoshop / Fireworks designs into working browser based web pages.
You'll be working entirely within the Squarespace "Version 6" CMS, so you'll work closely with the designers to integrate designs seamlessly into the chosen technology.

The Role of the Front End Developer

As a Front End Developer you'll also be responsible for:
• Providing accurate timing estimates on work.
• Contributing to documentation (instructional, pitch and technical specification)
• Contributing to the our development standards— working closely with the Owner or Technical Director.
• Discussing technical solutions with clients and providing innovative new ideas to solutions.
• Maintaining a high awareness of industry issues and trends, particularly in regard to accessibility, usability, responsive design and emerging technologies, and keep team members informed as appropriate, with a view to incorporating these in future projects and staying ahead of the market and position yourself and the company as a digital specialist.
•Constantly seeking to develop yourself by learning new technologies and keeping abreast of your market's developments.

Skills and experience necessary for this role

• Excellent HTML, XHTML, HTML5, CSS2, CSS3 programming skills
• Coding valid XHTML and CSS mark-up
• Good understanding of the LESS Framework ( [url removed, login to view] )
• Developing cross-browser and cross-platform compatible solutions
• Developing, testing and troubleshooting responsive websites
• Exceptional JavaScript programming skills
• Experience with JQuery
• Knowledge of working with YUI is a plus
• Knowledge of working with JavaScript frameworks to create rich interactive content
• Excitement about emerging web technologies such as HTML5 and CSS3
• Good understanding of Web Accessibility
• Experience working with version control systems such as Git is a huge plus (Squarespace doc on Git: [url removed, login to view] )
• Knowledge of HTML Email best practice desirable
• Knowledge of Social Network integration desirable

One of the most important factors is your ability to think on your feet. Making the right design/development decisions when you may have limited spec would be ideal. This ability to "fill in the blanks" is critical.
