Tailored content for English language teaching
This is an ongoing series of assignments for developing original training content targeted to specific levels of English learners. I wrote argumentative essays that show how students can use readily available online news media sources for facts and develop arguments to write coherent essays on nearly any topic. Some of the topics are highly abstract. Each essay makes use of footnote references to cite sources. I also wrote essays in two of the most widely recognized essay formats, Toulmin and Rogerian. My work shows how an argumentative essay can be adapted to either format with minimal editing. Another training initiative was the grading of reading passages. Flesch reading ease is a parameter that defines the suitability of a reading passage according to the level of learner proficiency. I graded passages to meet specific Flesch scores that match grade 8, 10 and 12 students. I also created questions from each passage for each grade of students to check comprehension.
