LiveCode is a runtime environment that was inspired by HyperCard, however has the benefit of
cross-platform compatibility. While HyperCard was focused on MacOS, LiveCode (LC) is a
programming facility that can work with Windows, Linux, Android and iOS, as well as others.

LC is accessible to customers with a range of programming abilities. ‘Cookie Cutters’ are drag-drop
tools that can be used by consumers with little to no experience, however this method has
limitations. LiveCode’s language is English-based, making it easy to learn. LC allows editing of the
User Interface even while the program itself is running. University research has indicated that
LiveCode consistently has a lower cognitive load than other programs to reach the same goals.
Less effort is required, particularly as LC has fewer steps than its competitors.

LiveCode has been used to create training tools, apps, visual acuity software and critical testing
platforms. LC was introduced in 2001, and as of the 2015 release with ‘LiveCode Builder’, the
software can be used to create widgets. A crowdfunding campaign in 2014 reached $400,000 USD
to bring HTML5 to LiveCode.

Many businesses find it beneficial to have an app, as it allows the company to retain engagement
with previous customers. Through use of incentives and push notifications, an app leads to repeat
business. As mentioned above, LiveCode is potentially the easiest way for said app to be produced.
