"Read All, Accept All"
The 50 First Dates is an unforgetable fare with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in the lead roles. Despite backlash from critics, the Box Office was kinder, grossing $198.5 Million on a budget of $75 million. One thing is clear, money outweighs favourable reviews and someone has to make a living off killing movies.
With a great plot, contemporary themes, dark humour, unforgetable characters, interesting dialogue, and fine acting, the first 10 minutes will blow you away
The movie opens with simultaneous monologues about the modern phenomenom "dating" with several females recounting their dating experience with a certain Henry Roth played by Adam Sandler, portrayed as a womanizer.
We see an aqua-sea world type park in Hawaii where Henry works as a vetenarian. Dialogue between Henry and Ula, a local weed smoking Hawaiian reveals the dark and playful tone of the movie, which most critics argue to be unsuitable for family fare given the sexual humour and drug reference.
Henry tries to save an ailing seal which reveals he is sensitive and empathetic towards animals and insensitive towards his assistant "Alexia" played by Lucia Struss, as she becomes victim of a bad joke; Henry high-five the seal for vomiting on Alexia.
Henry displays his sense of adventure, but his boat betrays him. Stranded half way on an Hawaiian Island, fate has other plans. He meets "Lucy Whitmore" played by Drew Barrymore, and this shapens the remaining 89 minutes of the film.
